The new album is just pure awesomeness! It has been forever since these guys released an album (One X); however, it was well worth the wait!
Anyways, on to more important things. There was a teacher sit-in that took place across the UC schools in California. Supposedly, the UC system is trying to increase student fees, cut teacher’s pay, and make further cuts within the UC budget. This means that student would have to shell out even more money, for less resources available to them.
This doesn’t sound right now does it? Why should someone pay more for less?! So the teachers and students across the UC system protested last week that these tuition hikes and budget cuts were unfair and unreasonable. During this poor economic times, it is harder for students to pay for classes and books as is, so an increase in tuition next year is completely out of the question.
I do agree that these people all have a valid reason to be upset. However, i do not agree with their actions. Instead of protesting against the hikes and cuts, they should be thinking about making compromises. Money is money. Money has a value to it. If there is no money, then that means there is NO MONEY! With the economy in the toilet, the UC system isn’t able to provide all the resources demanded by the student body, and pay all the teachers the wages they want. This is why the cuts and hikes are necessary. With the increase in student tuition, that money can be used to further invest on University research and projects, and pay the teachers a decent wage. The cuts to the balance with insure that money isn’t spent in places where it does not need to be spent.
Instead of protesting, why not try to find a way to compromise and make things work!? Use the time for working out a means of obtaining the money, or else nothing will ever get done and you will all have to live with the compromises that someone else will make for you.
With that said, you all need to checkout Three Days Grace new album, “Life Start Now”!
No seriously now, this whole “swine” flu, “H1N1” virsus, or “mexican” flu if you wish to call it, is getting out of hand. The common flu is more deadly than this thing. You hear on the news that 150 something mexicans in mexico have died, but only 7 of them have been confirmed to be swine flu. The common flu that everyone gets once a year kills thousands every year. You don’t hear the news channels playing that up, do you?
So please people, stop making this thing a bigger deal than it really is. Actually, this just goes to show that the media has nothing really to report on. Let’s face it, nobody really wants to hear about the bad economy anymore. We all know that its going to be the same story “Oh, the markets are down again.”
Honestly now, we as people of the United States of America are so funny. This past election was pretty much one of the more entertaining elections in recent history. For example, we elected the first black american to ever become President! But im not here to rant on about president elect Obama in any means, at least not for right now that is. Usually the new president is judged from his first 100 days in office, so until then Obama has some time to settle down and make with those promises about ‘change’ in the United States to come true. No, im not here to talk about Obama. Im here to talk about something that has really caught my attention. During the campaign, what grasped the general publics’ interest? The answer is the Economy. People wanted to know how the said presidential canditates would fix the economy. Unless you’ve been locked inside your room and tied to a chair, you would know that our economy is currently in the crap hole. The Stock Market has been taking a pludge within the last month, and investers are running scared. Retailers such as Best Buy are struggling because consumers have changed their spending habits. Consumers are too scared to spend their money, are too scared to invest their money. Meanwhile, people in Los Angeles county voted yes on Measure R that demands more money to construct a subway system that nobody will ever use, and the stupidest thing is California HAS NO MONEY! California is in billions of dollars in debt. So where is this money going to come from to help fund the new subway system? That’s right, its going to come from you, through increased taxes. Its funny how people in California always complain about taxes, taxes being too high and etc. Then they go and vote on a measure that would increase sales tax! If you dont want higher taxes, then dont vote for them stupid, duh!
who cares about the economy? I want to know who’s going to be first dog?!
Anyway, the economy was the big issue during the election. Now that we have a president elect, Barack Obama, you would think there would be more articles on the news about Obama’s plans to help change our economy? You would think there would be some interviews about how Obama plans to spend his first 100 days in office to help better our economy. However, this isnt the case! Instead we get articles about what kind of dog is he going to get! You know, during his victory speech when he said he was going to get a puppy for his girls? Yes, thats right. There are more news articles on the web that feature “Who’s going to be the new First Dog?!” than articles about our economy.
A few links for your thoughts:
CNN - iReporters sniff out names, breeds for first dog
IrishTimes - Trainers standing by to initiate First Dog into politics
Los Angeles Times - Obamas won’t find a ‘hypoallergenic’ dog
Its really fun how people complain about our suffering economy, and yet worry about what kind of dog is going to be in the white house! I mean come on people, are you really serious? I understand that we as Americans love animals, but are you for real? I find this very funny and amusing. People these days are just so funny!
Ok, I’m sure you all know(well, at least those that live in California) that proposition 8 was passed. Therefore banning gay marriage in said state. But obviously this didn’t go well with the gay supporters. Now if you wanted my opinion on this matter, i would have to go with ‘no’ on Prop. 8. You know why, because why the hell should i care if gay people want to get married? In fact, with how screwed up marriage is here in the United States (nearly 50% divorce rate) i say we give the gays a chance! I mean this way they can understand how screwed up marriage really is! Let them get married and share in the same pain we all do! Seriously though, how is some random gay couple getting married going to effect your life; it isn’t. Nothing is going to change, you will still be breathing the next day i promise you, and for those of you that come out with that excuse that you don’t want your kids to be influenced by the gay community, that a load of bull. Simply because your kids will grow up being whoever they want to be, let that be gay or straight. You are either gay or not! Its that simple! You do not all of a sudden become gay, that just doesn’t make sense. So why in the name did people vote for Prop. 8? Ill tell you why, but you already know the answer. People just do not accept gays, the do not and will not. Society doesn’t only not accept the gay community, they also do not know how to deal with the gay community. Society finds gay marriage as a sin, plain and simple. The hurdle the gay communities have to overcome to persuade the public is enormous. They have to find a way to explain how gay marriage is a Fundamental Right. However, the problem with this is how would you explain that? For that matter, how would you explain that a regular marriage is a Fundamental Right? Why is marriage between a man and women acceptable, and why isn’t a same sex marriage acceptable? There really isn’t a definite answer! Society just sees marriage as between a man and women, and that’s it! There isn’t really any reasoning behind it, for that’s just the way it is! For example, in our movie industry, Hollywood always protray lovers and couples as between a man and a women. So if there really isn’t any fundamental answer as to why a regular marriage if a “fundamental right,” then how in the world are the gay communities going to explain that gays have a fundamental right to marry? What gives the right for anyone to marry? People get married because they love each other, because they can support each other, because they want to get away from their immediate families, etc. But that doesn’t explain why marriage is a fundamental right, and if anywhere in politics does it actually say that marriage is a fundamental right, where is the line drawn that says gays cannot get married? Who determines that he/she can get married but she/she cannot? Anyway, this is all one big mess. Clearly this matter will not be sorted anytime soon with the passing of Prop. 8.
summary: WHO GIVES IF GAYS GET MARRIED?! DO YOU? DO YOU PERSONALLY FEEL OFFENDED IF A GAY COUPLE GETS MARRIED?! DO FOR SOME REASON FEEL THAT YOU CAN NO LONGER BREATHE OR GO TAKE A CRAP BECAUSE GAYS WANT TO GET MARRIED?! ARE YOU SERIOUS, REALLY? WHY NOT LET GAY PEOPLE GET MARRIED, SO THEY CAN REALIZE HOW SCREWED UP MARRIAGE REALLY IS, SO THEN YOU CAN LAUGH IN THEIR FACES ABOUT IT! I MEAN HECK, LET THEM GET MARRIED AND GET A FEW LAUGHS OUT OF IT AT LEAST!
